take time to chew food

Mindful eating is chewing your food with awareness. We almost give advice to chew your food more, and eat slower. Firstly, when we understand how much chewing is beneficial for our overall health, taking a little more time with each bite during a meal seems to make more sense. There are several reasons for why we should take time to chew our food well;

Promotes healthy digestion

Take time to chew food

Chewing is the first step in the digestion process where most of the food particles get digested to their simpler forms. Digestion starts with mouth. Similarly, chewing more informs the body that it will be receiving food and allows it more time to prepare for digestion. Likewise, the more you chew, similarly more saliva is mixed in with your food before it is swallowed. In short, it is beneficial for the digestion.

Stop over-eating

Overeating is the excess food consumed in relation to the energy that an organism expands leading to weight gain and obesity. It may be cause eating disorder. As a result it takes about twenty minutes for the brain to receive the message that stomach is full. However, if someone is eating quickly, it is easy to take in much food than is necessary before realizing they are full.

Enhances Nutrient absorption

Chewing well gives enough time for the stomach to secrete the necessary digestive juices and to prepare itself well to promote a healthy digestion. This aids in complete digestion, efficient nutrient absorption and regular bowel movements. Therefore, by allowing chewing process to be completed entirely you are supplying your body with smaller pieces of food which can digest more quickly and efficiently.

Appreciate your food more

In today’s world it is easy to feel the need or desire to eat far too quickly. When you take the time to chew more thoroughly, you will start to appreciates your meal times more. The more you chew will gave sweeter the taste of food in your mouth. Flavors and textures will start to jump out at you more as you focus on and appreciate how amazing eating can be. Similarly, chewing slowly can also help you to enjoy the experience of eating more, which reduces the amount of craving for food you don’t need later.

Control your weight

When you consciously chew you will naturally slow down how quickly you are eating. When you slow down how quickly you are eating, you allow yourself the chance to be aware of your natural hunger and satiety cues, which can decrease your risk of overeating. Try chewing each bite at least 15 to 30 times depending on the food. So, you will be able to follow better portion control aiding in weight loss.

Promotes growth and repairs the body

Chew slowly can promote growth to the body and repairs it. Because food is complex and contains many types of molecules including proteins. Proteins are critical because they are broken down into amino acids, and they are the building blocks for growth and repair. These are essential for life. We cannot create or store amino acids in our body and lacking of chewing creates a barrier to the digestion of proteins and ultimately to the digestion of amino acids.

Boost Energy

A nutrient rich diet may help to boost your energy. But if you are not chewing healthy foods properly the nutrients may not be absorbed by the body leaving you feel fatigue. Once food is broken down both macro and micro nutrients are absorbed through your small intestines into your bloodstream. The better you chew more nutrients you will absorb from the food you eat.
Above all, are the reasons why we should take time to chew our food well. We hope you like it. Don’t forget to share it with your friends and family. Leave your comments in comment section.
